Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has been acquitted charges of alleged defamation against Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
The legislator was in September 2020 charged with two counts of hatespeech and offensive terms against the first family.
In a video that went viral on social media, the MP was heard making utterances that later caused outcry from a section of leaders who accused him of dragging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother into ‘dirty’ politics.
Chief Magistrate Isaac Itenge on Friday morning ruled that the evidence provided in court was not substantial enough to convict the lawmaker.
He said despite several witnesses presenting their evidence in court, none stated how Mr Sudi’s utterances would affect them.
He said the prosecution side also did not present evidence that proved that the utterances were meant to stir ethnic violence as earlier claimed.
