Two rifles that were stolen after armed bandits attacked Loruko Police post in Isiolo on January 31 and killed one police officer have been recovered.
The G3 rifles loaded with 40 rounds of ammunition were stolen when four armed criminals, suspected to be Samburu Morans, raided the station at 7:30PM and shot dead Police Constable Francis Njeru.
Police sources say one of the firearm was recovered on Saturday last week and the other one two days later following a one-week operation in the area.
“We recovered all the firearms after a security operation in Loruko and neighbouring areas. The suspects will be arraigned and charged,” a source told The Press Point.
Only the slain officer and a colleague who had reportedly gone to a nearby school to make a call were present during the incident. The station has nine officers.
Another officer Vincent Kipkorir who had allegedly left the post to seek banking services in Isiolo town and who returned to the station the following day was days ago arrested on suspicion of having colluded with the criminals.
The officer was supposed to have been on duty with the slain colleague and could not account for his firearm and ammunition with investigators suspecting that he could have sold them to the criminals.
The prime suspect was arrested a day after the incident during a public baraza that brought together village elders and the security team from Loruko and neighbouring areas.
Isiolo Law Court last week allowed police to continue holding the officer and three others among them the prime suspect and a 17-year-old boy until February 14 to allow completion of investigations.
