An armed suspect was arrested after a fire exchange between a group of armed bandits and police officers on mission to recover stolen livestock in Sarova Shaba area.
The officers were patrolling the area, following reports that the 187 goats stolen from Ngaremara were driven there, when the bandits suspected to have come from neighbouring Samburu County ambushed them and started firing indiscriminately.
Isiolo Sub-County Police boss George Kariuki said Letikiyo Lesonoi was arrested and a G3 rifle recovered from him during the Thursday incident that occured around 1:30PM.
“Our officers were patrolling the area when they were ambushed by a group of bandits resulting to a shootout,” said Mr Kariuki while leaving that other suspects managed to escape.
The suspect, who hails from Losesia in Samburu East Constituency, is being detained at Isiolo Police Station pending completion of the ongoing investigation.
The incident comes barely two weeks after armed bandits attacked Loruko Police post and killed a police officer before getting away with two firearms that have since been recovered.
