Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his Agriculture counterpart Peter Munya have hit out at Deputy President William Ruto for criticising the government that he is part of and at the same time claiming credit for development projects undertaken by the State.
The CSs termed DP Ruto hypocritical for castigating the government while claiming political mileage for President Uhuru Kenyatta administration’s achievements.
The second-in-command recently told off his boss for accusing him of getting into politics early instead of diverting the energy to fulfilment of the promises they made to the electorates during the 2017 elections.
Dr Ruto said no one could deny him credit for Jubilee government projects as he undertook them jointly with the President.
But Dr Matiang’i and Mr Munya told off the DP for smearing President Kenyatta development track record saying a lot had been achieved by the current leadership and Kenyans can see.
“It is very dishonest for leaders to take credit for all the projects initiated by President Kenyatta and at the same time accuse the government of doing nothing,” Dr Matiang’i said.
The leaders spoke during a public baraza in Chiakariga, Tharaka Nithi County during unveiling of new Chiakariga Sub-County adminstration unit.
Mr Munya asked DP Ruto and his political allies to respect the President and allow for incremental development arguing that it was impossible to meet every community’s wish list.
“We cannot say we are where we should be, but let us learn to give credit where it is due. We all know those spreading lies that the government has done nothing are bitter and selfish people who have overran themselves and their shortcuts to power have hit a dead end,” he said.
Dr Matiang’i also announced gazettment of Muthambi Sub-County in Maara constituency which will ensure residents access to crucial government services.
After holding meetings at Kiriirie SDA church and Tunyai Mixed Secondary school where they handed over Sh5 million cheque for construction of modern laboratory, the leaders asked Kenyans to be wary of dishonest politicians cherry-picking on government development projects.
Senator Kithure Kindiki and Governor Muthomi Njuki asked the CSs to ensure ongoing projects are completed in time for residents to start benefiting.
