Two men have been arrested for allegedly crushing padlocks and selling them to unsuspecting clients as gold.
The two, Mr Collins Chavera and Rogers Kipkogei, acting as agents of a Congo based gold baron tricked their victim with the padlock dust defrauding him off Sh1 million which he deposited to different Mpesa accounts provided by the two.
The two would later be arrested in Uthiru, Kiambu County where hundreds of simcards and identification cards suspected to have been stolen were recovered.
Police believe that the suspects were using the id cards to register different Mpesa lines which in turn were used to defraud Kenyans.
The two were arraigned on Friday where the court allowed their detention to allow completion of the ongoing investigation.
