Police in Kilimani are holding two men who were reportedly found in possession of firearms following an unrest over leadership witnessed at Lavington Methodist Church on Friday.
The two, Mr Peter Miradi and Kisito Matete aged 36 and 43 respectively allied to MCK incoming Presiding Bishop Joseph Kanyamu were found in possession of automatic pistols loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.
It is alleged that two warring parties, one led by the current Presiding Bishop Joseph Ntombura and another one led by Mr Kanyamu stormed the church premise with the latter planning to forcefully eject Mr Ntombura from the office.
According to a police report seen by The Press Point, Mr Kanyamu’s team forcefully broke into the office belonging to Mr Ntombura.
Area security team led by Sub-County police boss and County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) arrived at the scene and managed to calm the situation.
A contingent of police officers has been deployed in bid to guard the premise until calmness resumes.
The church has in the recent past been in constant leadership wrangles with the two teams accusing each of failure to lead the congregation in the right way.
Mr Ntombura has for a while been on the receiving end, with accusations of refusal to step down even after end of his term.
