A 48-year-old man from Kitengela in Kajiado County has abandoned his 28-year-old wife and children demanding that she undergoes Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) before they reunite and live together.
Ms Susan Nyambura claimed her husband has been severally assaulting her and that she experienced a miscarriage three years ago due to the beating.
She said despite being in her third trimester in pregnancy, the man had been beating her up demanding that she undergoes the cut days before he abandoned her and their three children.
Ms Nyambura said it was a culture running in their husband’s family saying his brother had forced the wife to undergo the cut.
She said the husband claimed that it was a taboo living with an uncircumcised woman accusing him of always referring to her as a child after she refused to oblige.
The mother of three has appealed for help saying she needed urgent medical attention resulting from the husband’s violence and can no longer fend for her children.
