The Sakuye community elders have thrown their weight behind Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti’s Gubernatorial re-election bid.
Dr Kuti will battle it out with about seven other aspirants from different communities in the county including his predecessor Godana Doyo and former EACC boss Halakhe Waqo.
During a meeting on Saturday, about 200 elders drawn from 12 clans of the community voiced their support for Dr Kuti’s bid and rallied other communities living in the county to support him.
“As a community we have endorsed him honorably and in good faith. We therefore request all the communities who have been our friends to support him,” said elder Madera Bonaya.
The elders gave Dr Kuti a green light to choose the political party he deems best and promised to back him on the presidential aspirant he chooses to support.
They hailed Dr Kuti for what they termed as great track record saying his contribution in the health sector and infrastructure had largely transformed the locals livelihoods.
The Governor has been under heated criticism from a section of residents who accuse him of poor development track record and unfulfilled promises.
While politics in the county continue to be murkier, Dr Kuti was recently during ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s tour of the county, a victim of booing by irate youths.
The youths, reportedly funded by some local politicians, booed the Governor during the Azimio la Umoja meeting forcing him to leave the podium at a time when he was expected to introduce his counterparts.
After receiving the elders blessings, Governor Kuti expressed optimism that Isiolo residents will support his bid and allow him accomplish his development agenda for the region.
