More than 40 elderly persons in Isiolo County on Sunday received food donations from a Community Based Organization as 60 percent of the county residents continue to feel the effects of the biting drought.
Close to 100, 000 residents are in dire need of food assistance according to a recent National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) hunger report with the most affected wards being Sericho, Oldonyiro, Cherab, and Kinna wards among others.
Speaking during the issuance of the foods in Isiolo town, Mfinyanzi CBO Chair Peter Ngechu said the elderly, children and people living with disabilities are among the groups that suffer most when hunger strikes.
“We understand the challenges that the elderly go through especially when hunger hits and as a group decided to support them with the foods,” said Mr Ngechu.
Among those who benefited with the grains is Ms Sarah Kirimi, 82, who has been living at Kambi ya Sheikh area in Burat ward with her 15-year-old granddaughter.
