Residents of Milimani area within the outskirts of Isiolo town are in shock after son to a 77-year-old man who shockingly dug his grave 17 years ago and who was buried last Friday said he will dig his before his death.
Franklin Munene lauded his late father’s move arguing it was in order contrary to what many residents who spoke to the Press Point thought.
On his part, he said doing like his dad, a renowned businessman, will ease the burden on family members who he stressed should not be overstretched after death of a relative.
“We did very little and I will also prepare my grave before I die just like my late father,” Mr Munene told journalists at their home a day before his father was buried.
His father Samson Mwongera dug the grave that was to be used by either him or his wife based on who died first. He also wrote a tribute and his own eulogy to be read during his burial, a year after digging the grave.
The father of eight, four sons and four daughters then advised that whoever died first was to be buried at the cupboard-like grave and the coffin of his or her partner be placed on the top.
Until his demise, the Methodist Church faithful was the Vice Chair of Isiolo Community Policing and member of Njuri Ncheke council of elders.
Residents of area who spoke to the Press Point termed the family as that of ‘weird’ occurrences.
“It was very strange of his father who was a staunch Christian and I am surprised that his son also wants to follow suit,” said Ms Alice Karimi.
