Detectives have arrested man who reportedly assaulted, defiled, and murdered five young girls in cold blood in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County
Mr Evans Juma Wanjala is said to have lured the girls aged between 10 and 15 years from different parts within Moi Bridge before taking them to secluded areas where he defiled and strangled them to death.
The defilement and murder incidences occurred between December 2019 and June 2021.
The suspect, hard-pressed by sleuths to reveal how he executed the killings, gave a step-by-step account of how he murdered Stacy Nasibo, 10, Grace Njeri, 12, Linda Cherono, 13, Mary Elusa, 14, and 15-year-old Lucy Wanjiru after defiling them.
At the scenes where the murder was carried out, remains of the killed minors were recovered by investigators.
Ms Cherono’s decomposing body, half-naked, was found near Baharini dam last Thursday with signs of strangulation and physical injuries after she went missing days earlier.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said all the other four victims were first defiled before being strangled to death and left in the bushes to be devoured by wild beasts.
In two of the instances, the girls’ lifeless bodies were stashed in gunny bags covered with vegetables and left in the bushes.
Mr Juma has an active case in court for allegedly defiling two girls in Kibwezi in 2018. Makindu Law Courts had earlier issued a warrant of arrest against the man, out on bond, after he went into hiding and failed to appear in court to answer the charges.
“The suspect will be arraigned in court to answer to murder charges,” DCI shared on Twitter.
This comes few days after a 20-year-old Masten Milimu Wanjala confessed to killing 13 children in Nairobi and its environs between June 30 and July 8 this year throwing Nairobians into panic following increasing kidnapping cases that continue to be reported each day.
Reports indicate that at least 90 children are reported missing in Nairobi each month with parents now worried that their children could fall prey to criminals who extort money by demanding ransom from parents.
