MPs from Mt Kenya East have supported recent coronation of the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as the Mt Kenya region spokesperson and told off their Mt Kenya West brothers opposed to the investiture.
MPs Mugambi Rindiki (Buuri), JohnPaul Mwirigi (Igembe South) and Rahim Dawood of Imenti North hailed Mr Muturi as the perfect choice to take over as the region’s kingpin once President Uhuru Kenyatta term expires in 2022 as was non-partisan maintaining that they were solidly behind him.
Their sentiments were also supported by Isiolo Deputy Governor Dr Abdi Issa who said Mr Muturi had shown outstanding leadership skills and would ensure the region’s interests are well taken care of after Mr Kenyatta leaves office.
Mr Mwirigi said they were confident with Mr Muturi as had the blessings from the elders and called upon those opposed to his coronation to accept and respect the Wazee’s decision.
“Where were those making noise now when Muturi was being coronated?,” Mr Mwirigi posed adding that “We are solidly behind him and if he shows us the way, we will follow”.
MP Dawood asked leaders to respect the elders decision and be tolerant to each other.
“The elders have shown us the way, who are we to refuse?” Mr Dawood posed.
Dr Issa said by taking over from President Kenyatta, Mr Muturi will be instrumental in pushing for development in the region and ensuring peaceful coexistence.
“Do not focus on distractions but soldier on for you have our support and Isiolo is behind you,” the Deputy Governor told Mr Muturi.
Mr Rindikiri said Speaker Muturi had done a lot of work in his constituency including participating in churches’ fundraisers therefore would ensure the region’s interests are considered.
The leaders spoke during the send-off ceremony for the late National Council of Elders Chair Phares Rutere at his BBC home in Meru County.
The ceremony was attended by Speaker Muturi, Acting Deputy Governor Nairobi County Ann Kananu, National Council of Elders Patron Kung’u Muigai, Council Vice-Chair John Seii, elders and leaders from different parts of the country.
