A court in Nakuru has found Jane Muthoni, the widow of Kiiru Boys High School Principal Solomon Mwangi Mbuthi, guilty of her husband’s death.

The woman, who alongside co-accused Isaac Nga’ng’a alias Gikuyu will know their fate in a month’s time, reportedly hired some men to eliminate her husband on allegations that he was having extra-marital affairs.

The incident happened between November 4 and November 11, 2016 in Kiambu County.

In her earlier testimony, Ms Muthoni claimed the killing was planned by her husband’s colleagues who were not happy after he was posted to the school and her promotion to head Icaciri Secondary.

The alleged cartel, she said, influenced the promotion and transfers of teachers in the region and had demanded Sh1 million from them to facilitate their transfer to their preferred schools.

But Justice Joel Ngugi found her and Mr Gikuyu guilty of murder.

Ms Muthoni will be sentenced on May 18, 2021.
