A Meru County Government official has been jailed for 10 years for allegedly defiling a minor.
Rimita Mutethia who worked in the Sports department reportedly sodomized a 15-year-old boy on October 16, 2020.
On the material day, the victim had gone to sell boiled eggs near the officer’s home at Muthara in Tigania East.
The officer first ordered one egg and then requested for another but demanded that the boy serves him inside his house.
Inside the house, the official reportedly grabbed the victim and committed the heinous act.
Mr Mutethia then allegedly locked the victim inside the house, went out and came back later in the evening while drunk, giving the minor room to escape.
The boy reported the matter to his parents who alerted the police.
The suspect had earlier pleaded not guilty saying the incident happened while he was away from home.
But Tigania Principal Magistrate Gathogo Sogomo in his ruling, a week ago, said the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused attempted to defile the boy and sentenced him for 10 years.
The officer has 14 days to appeal.
