Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi on Friday summoned managers of four vernacular radio stations in Isiolo over the allegations that radio stations in Northern Kenya were fueling hate and tension in the region.
The Press Point is reliably informed that Mr Shambi during the about half-an-hour meeting at his office in Isiolo town, asked the radio heads of Radio Shahidi, Angaaf, Baliti and IBSE to ensure their shows are censored and remain as objective as possible.
He specifically asked them to ensure listeners and leaders during phone-ins and interviews do not fuel hatred and to use the media stations to preach and foster peace among communities.
During a recent meeting with leaders from Isiolo, Wajir and Garissa in Nairobi, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i warned vernacular radio stations against spreading tension as the region continues to witness a spate of clashes.
Sources told the Press Point that two of the radio stations in Isiolo were being monitored for fueling hate.
