President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to commission Kirubia Stadium in Tharaka Nithi County any time after two weeks.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility located in the outskirts of Chuka town, Sports Kenya Chairman, Mr Fred Muteti said the ongoing construction of the Sh247 million stadium will be completed in two weeks.

“By February 15, 2021 the contractor; Toddy Civil Engineering and Construction Company will have completed the work,” said Mr Muteti.

He said after its completion, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage and Culture Ambassador Amina Mohamed will inspect it before inviting President Kenyatta to hand it over to the county residents.

Construction of the facility with a 4500-seater pavilion began in 2016 and was expected to have been finished in 2017, but it stalled for that long due to financial problems.

Once complete, Kirubia Stadium will all have a football pitch, a rugby pitch, an athletics track, a volleyball court and a basketball court.
