The burial for former Njuri Ncheke Chair Paul M’Ethingia who passed on on Jamhuri Day has been slated for coming Monday December 21.
The National Council of Elders Chair Phares Rutere said plans were underway to ensure the elder is given a befitting send-off and that elders from across the country among other leaders will attend the ceremony.
He eulogized Mr M’Ethingia as a dedicated leader who played key role in opening up of the revered council to Ameru professionals despite objection from the elders.
The late, Mr Rutere said, spearheaded council’s efforts to assist vulnerable families and ensuring widows and daughters’ right to inherit their late husbands and fathers properties.
Mr M’Ethinkia, Mr Rutere and former Director of Culture Kaburu Dubai were in 2013 honored by former President Mwai Kibaki with the Order of Grand Warrior for outstanding service rendered to the country in different responsibilities and capacities.
He said the deceased, whom he worked with as the Secretary General to the Council, initiated peace efforts between Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties that were embroiled in boundary disputes.
“We have lost a dedicated leader who championed for peace and played crucial role in integration of professionals into the revered council among others. My heart is saddened,” Mr Rutere said.
