Nyeri Town was plunged into shock and anger following the discovery of the body of a 7-year-old girl who was reported missing over the weekend.
Baby Tamara Blessing is said to have been last seen at the new open air market in Nyeri town on Saturday before she left as reported missing.
Her disappearance was followed by a desperate search by parents and friends with the news circulating all over social and mainstream media.
Unknown to the family and friends, the search would end in horror after her lifeless body was discovered buried at the home of a casual laborer within the town on Monday.
Preliminary report indicate that the minor was defiled and later killed.
Police arrested the ‘beba beba’ man who’s suspected to have conducted the heinous act and is currently being held awaiting arraignment.
The disturbing discovery has triggered widespread outrage, with residents accusing authorities of negligence and expressing deep frustration over the safety of children and the integrity of the justice system.
Angry residents gathered outside Nyeri Police Station, demanding the suspect be handed over to them. Chants of “No justice, no peace!” echoed through the streets, with residents calling for swift punishment for the heinous act.
“We are tired of burying our children. How can someone do this to a 7-year-old and still walk among us? We have lost faith in the courts,” said one protester.
The protests quickly escalated into running battles between residents and police officers, who were forced to use tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
Local leaders and children’s rights advocates have condemned the incident and called for an urgent review of child safety measures, particularly in urban markets.
