An initiative to support young people aged 19 to 29 access skills, opportunities and services is underway in Nasuroi Village, Ngaremara Ward, Isiolo County.

Dubbed Promoting Resilience, Inclusivity, and Meaningful Engagement (PRIME), the program aims to empower young people through training in entrepreneurship, agriculture, and sexual and reproductive health to improve lives and contribute to a meaningful society.

Implemented by Merti Integrated Development Program (MID-P) with support from Mercy Corps, the program will also focus on building their knowledge and practical skills for self-reliance.

The initiative targets three youth groups in Nasuroi, two female and one male, through structured weekly sessions.

Each group brings together 15–30 members to discuss life skills, health, and finances.

MID-P representative Zaituna Abdullahi said PRIME creates an environment where youth can unlock their potential and live healthier and economically stable lives.

Youth are also trained on saving and lending through group-based micro-finance activities, helping them grow small businesses or invest in farming.

Group leader Christine Alim Lim said the support has helped many girls start businesses and access family planning services as well as encouraged men to support their wives through pregnancies.

Samuel Nyangayo, who leads the male group, said more young men are now involved in reproductive health and support their partners during pregnancy.

Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), also part of the program, play a key role in delivering information on reproductive health, family planning, and nutrition in the remote village.
