Tharaka Nithi County MP Beatrice Nkatha has refuted claims that she collects inducements from beneficiaries of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Some women groups had raised concerns alleging that officers from the lawmaker’s office were demanding money from them so as to benefit with the loans but Nkatha maintained that those were not her officers but criminals targeting to steal from gullible groups.
Others had claimed that the Women Rep only gives loans to groups with members who are her political supporters’ allegations that she denied.
“Those are conmen who want to steal from our people and they are not from my office,” Nkatha said at Muthambi area in Maara constituency.
The legislator noted that the NGAAF funds were free and asked residents to be wary of impostors promising to help them out stressing that all group proposals should be taken to her office at Kathwana, the county headquarters.
“Youths, women and people living with disabilities interested with the funds should drop their proposals at our Kathwana office as that is where my officers are,” she said.
The MP gave two groups, St Augustine and Kirogi Sh160, 000 and Sh210, 000 loans respectively.
New Curriculum
The legislator faulted Education CS Prof George Magoha for what she termed as not consulting other education stakeholders in implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).
Nkatha said the don had thrown the sector into total confusion by dictating how the CBC should be implemented.
Among the stakeholders the CS should consult for smooth roll out of the curriculum include the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), she said.
“Our learners stand to lose if the ongoing push and pull between the teachers union and the ministry continues,” she noted.
