Police have launched investigations following twin incidents of two companies allegedly defrauding unsuspecting citizens while promising them jobs abroad.
The two separate companies, Korir Overseas Placement Agency and First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy, are said to have collected between Sh20, 000 to Sh1.3 million from victims with the promise of helping them secure jobs.
Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odeyo allowed investigators to continue holding Mr Amos Korir of former company to allow them conclude the ongoing investigations.
According to the investigating officer Joseph Lagat, the sleuths needed more time to obtain bank transactions records and M-Pesa statements that the suspect used obtain about Sh1.3 million by false pretence.
The suspect is being held at Langas Police Station ahead of mentioning of his case on October 3.
More than 200 youths from Uasin Gishu claimed that they had been defrauded by the Consultancy with promise to help them secure receptionists, cashiers and cleaners jobs in Qatar and other countries.
According to the victims who held peaceful demonstrations to the county commissioner’s office, the agency was collecting between Sh40, 000 to Sh200, 000 alongside their passports and academic certificates but was yet to honour the promise.
Though the company denied the allegations, the victims recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to allow investigation commence.
