A Primary school head in Baringo County has been arrested for attempting to kill his baby over claims that the child had ears that did not resemble his.
The father of eight, who had gone into hiding after the ghastly incident, was apprehended by elders and taken to Loruk Police Station.
According to the wife, the head teacher returned home while drunk and threatened to kill the five-months-old baby claiming that the child neither resembled him nor his sisters, and therefore not the biological dad.
The mother had gone to the sitting room to serve the husband food, only to return later and find the door closed from inside.
After several minutes of struggle and while screaming to alert the neighbours, the woman managed to open the door but was shocked to find her baby writhing in pain and on fire while her husband, armed with a kitchen knife, watched.
She luckily managed to pull the baby out of fire, having sustained serious burns on the body.
Due to insecurity issues at night, the mother and child had to spend at the chief’s house before rushing the child to Marigat Sub-County Hospital the following day. They were later referred to Baringo County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Police have since then launched investigations into the matter as the suspect awaits arraignment where he is likely to be charged with grievous harm.
