Parents in Isiolo have asked the government to beef up security at schools in far-flung areas that are occasionally affected by insecurity to avert disruption of learning.
Isiolo Parents Chair Ismael Galma appealed to the security organs to come up with measures to enhance security at the schools so that learning continues uninterrupted as was happening in other areas in the county.
Mr Galma wants resumption process for Alango Primary that was temporarily shut down following killing of five people at Madowale last week, fast-tracked so that the learners return to school soonest possible.
The school joins Urura and Lafe primary schools that were shut down early this year over banditry attacks.
Mr Galma said it was sad that learners from the area were staying at home while their colleagues in other parts of the county continued with learning and revising for end of term examinations.
“Children all over the country are now preparing for closure while our children have become refugees due to insecurity,” Mr Galma told The Press Point adding that many of the families at the affected areas had relocated to safer places, several kilometres away.
Isiolo County Director of Education Dr Hussein Koriyow said plans to have the affected learners back to school were underway but insisted that will happen after the situation has been contained.
“The pupils will only go back when the situation is contained because we value their safety so much,” Dr Koriyow said.
