Isiolo residents will no longer have to travel to neighbouring counties in quest for justice starting next month after Chief Magistrate Martha Koome announced the establishment of a High Court in the county.

Through a gazette notice dated May 29, 2023 the CJ noted the court would take effect from July 1, 2024.

“…. the Chief Magistrate has established Isiolo High Court with supervisory jurisdiction over Isiolo Chief Magistrates Court with effect from July 1, 2024,” read part of the notice.

The presence of the High Court is set to offer a sigh of relief to residents who have been travelling to Meru and other counties to seek justice on criminal and civil matters.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga had in 2020 promised that a Judge the would be visiting to hear High Court cases in bid to reduce backlogs as well as help residents cut on travel costs.

However, hundreds of locals have still been forced to chip in their pockets to finance high costs of travels to seek justice.
