Five police officers from the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) have been injured after the vehicle they were traveling in ran over an explosive device at Sangole area in Ijara, Garissa County.

Police reports indicate that the group was escorting a convoy of National Council for Nomadic Education boss Aron Yussuf and Ijara MP aspirant Ibrahim Abbas to Hulugho where the latter was to hold campaign rally when the explosive hit the front part of the police vehicle.

A contingent of police officers have since been dispatched to the area to ensure normalcy resumes.
