Marsabit County has lost second senior staff to what is suspected to be Coronavirus as the country continues to witness an upsurge in infections.
County Secretary Joseph Wako Guyo died at Marsabit Referral hospital where he was rushed on Tuesday morning after developing symptoms akin to those of Covid-19.
Confirming the death of Eng. Guyo, Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali eulogized him as a public servant who served the county with professionalism, dedication and commitment.
His death comes barely three months after County Finance chief officer Barako Abdullahi died from similar symptoms.
“It is with deep sorrow and heavy heart that I announce the passing of Eng. Guyo…,” the Governor said in a November 24 press statement.
The Governor said the officer exhibited Corona-like symptoms while being rushed to the hospital but his status had not been established.
It is reported that the late developed breathing complications while at his home where he had self-isolated for a week.
The father of three, offered service to the country in water sector for 30 years in various capacities including the Marsabit district water engineer and Isiolo water and sanitation company (Iwasco) boss.
He previously served as the county’s Water and Environment executive before taking over as the County Secretary and Head of Public Service.
“As we mourn his untimely death, we should also celebrate the service he offered to us and time he shared with us,” the county boss added.
Medical doctors at Marsabit Referral Hospital and the facility management have been advised to ensure total adherence to Covid-19 protocols in the handling of process, procedures and all rites related to the officer’s final sendoff.
Residents, Governor Ali said, must exercise extra caution and abide the Ministry of Health guidelines for containment of the disease.
