A mother of two from Koisagat village in Soy, Uasin Gishu County was Tuesday arraigned in Eldoret court for marrying off her 16-year-old daughter in July this year.
Reports indicate Ms Hellen Chesang Kemboi facing child neglect charges reportedly surrendered the Form One girl in exchange for unknown amount of money.
She was arrested after members of the public reported the incident to police and the daughter immediately rescued and rushed to a safe centre in Eldoret.
A manhunt for the supposed husband who escaped police dragnet is ongoing.
The court was told that the woman willfully neglected to protect the daughter from the harmful culture (of marrying off underage girls) thereby disrupting her education.
She was released on Sh50, 000 bond with Sh40, 000 cash bail alternative after pleading not guilty to child neglect.
The case will be mentioned on September 12 for further court directions.
