A Chuka court will on November 17 make a ruling in a case where Marimanti MCA Ms Susan Ngugi is accused of holding a public meeting against the Covid-19 health protocols.
Ms Ngugi was arrested within Kathwana municipality on April 21, 2020 by police officers led by Igambang’ombe Deputy County Commissioner Mr Fred Masinjila.
Before Chuka Chief Magistrate John Njoroge, the vocal MCA denied the charges and was released on a bond after spending a night in Chuka Police Station cell.
Ms Ngugi told the court that she was arrested while distributing face masks and sanitisers to the town residents in a bid to curb spread of the deadly disease.
The MCA is not new in the court corridors; shortly after she was announced the winner for the Marimanti ward seat, her competitor, Mr Benson Mwangangi petitioned the court claiming that the election process was marred with irregularities.
After a lengthy court battle, the court upheld her victory.
As one of the most vocal and learned MCA in Tharaka Nithi County Assembly, Ms Ngugi was elected the Deputy Speaker but later dethroned on accusations of misusing her office.
Ngugi moved to Chuka High Court to protest the move but the court ruled that the Assembly has the discretion to elect or dismiss any member in house leadership.
The House replaced her with Chiakariga MCA Njagi Mucee.
