Isiolo politician Mwenda Thuranira has urged President William Ruto to crack down on government and security officers who he claims are colluding with Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo to “derail accountability efforts in the county”.
Mwenda accused unnamed individuals of colluding in the illegal publication of gazette notices, including one that announced the appointment of a new County Assembly Speaker, Abdullahi Banticha, despite the existence of a legally elected speaker Mohammed Roba Qoto terming it as a blatant abuse of office and a mockery of the constitution.
He claimed the move was part of a wider scheme to frustrate the ongoing impeachment process against the governor, which has received support from 16 out of 18 MCAs and a section of residents.
“I appeal to President Ruto to take serious action against those who took part in publishing the illegal appointment of a new speaker so that it can sound a warning to others who engage in similar disregard to our constitution” he asked.
Popularly known as Mambo Fresh, Mwenda said the illegal acts were designed to destabilize the County Assembly, weaken oversight, and silence dissenting voices in the county.
“The manipulation of gazette notices is not just procedural fraud it’s a tool being used to destroy democracy in Isiolo,” he warned.
He also pointed to ongoing suffering in the county due to collapsed services, stalled development, and deepening youth hopelessness.
“From hospitals with no medicine to projects abandoned for years, Isiolo is bleeding because leaders are busy covering their tracks instead of delivering,” he said.
He said it was time for the Head of State to act decisively and help salvage the situation that he said had subjected residents to untold suffering.
“This is not a county issue anymore. When national officers help cover up illegality, the entire country should be alarmed,” he added.
He called on investigative agencies to move in quickly and hold those involved accountable.
The call comes amid rising political temperatures in the county with the Senate set to commence impeachment hearings tomorrow, an exercise that will run to July 10 when the senators will vote in favour or against the motion.
