Grief engulfed residents of Likuyani village in Kakamega when a lorry ran over a primary school girl and badly injured her father who was ferrying her to school on a bicycle.

The girl died on the spot during the accident along Kitale-Eldoret road on Tuesday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the driver tried to overtake when he ran over the 43-year-old and his daughter.

Furious residents set ablaze the lorry while accusing the driver of speeding and barricaded the stretch before police officers in anti-riot gear came in and dispersed the crowd.

The lorry and the bicycle were headed in the same direction when the accident occurred.
