One of the Kenya Wildlife Service officers who were shot by armed bandits at Oldonyiro field station on Friday night has succumbed to gunshot injuries at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital.
The attackers raided the station while the slain officer was preparing supper together with his colleague at the staff quarters, broke into an armoury and walked away with four firearms.
The other officer is nursing wounds at the same hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident and are detained at Isiolo Police Station awaiting their arraignment.
One of the firearms (pistol) has already been recovered with manhunt for the criminals and search for the other rifles underway.
A police report seen by Nation indicated that an operation led by security teams in Isiolo and Laikipia counties was underway.
The incident comes five months after a police officer was shot dead by bandits while at Loruko Police post.
The criminals stole two rifles loaded with 40 rounds of ammunition. Only two of the nine officers attached to the station were present at the time.
