Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti has rolled out a series of countywide group meetings in a bid to galvanize his support ahead of the 2022 general elections.
The county boss has in the recent past been under heated criticism from a section of the local leaders and residents over among others unfulfilled promises and delayed completion of mega projects in the county.
Less than a year to elections, Governor Kuti is keen on maximizing the time to build a strong campaigning team and lure back some of his old foes who had shifted to other camps.
Yesterday, Dr Kuti met a section of Samburu and Turkana youths living in Oldonyiro who demanded that he accomplishes the promise made to the community before supporting his re-election.
Led by their leaders, the youths demanded that Governor Kuti provides a lasting solution to water shortage in the area, provide an ambulance for the local health centre and push for the elevation of Oldonyiro ward to a Sub-County for improved services.
“For more than 17 years I have not seen piped water and I am sure the Governor has the capability to sort it out for us,” said the group’s chair Erick Lemunges.
The group also appealed for jobs for the youth who had graduated with different courses from Oldonyiro Polytechnic among other tertiary institutions in and out of the county.
“Majority of the young people (here) are qualified and we, therefore, request that they be considered when opportunities arise,” Area MCA David Lemantile told the Governor during the meeting.
Defending his development track, Dr Kuti said though he had not fulfilled all the promises, he had done quite a lot across the county only the majority of the residents were not aware.
The Governor lamented that several of the projects done by his administration had been hijacked by some of the local MPs who have allegedly been misleading the public and assured that time had come for the residents to know the truth.
“While they were making noise, I was busy working for the people who elected me and soon we shall unveil every project so that the truth comes out,” said Dr Kuti.
The governor maintained that he was keen on empowering youths from across the county and ensuring that they remain united.
