The County governments have been asked to be on the lookout for a possible outbreak of fifth wave of Coronavirus following the recent lifting of containment orders including the dusk to dawn curfew.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has lamented continued flouting of Covid-19 protocols by Kenyans and accused the government of neglecting the health personnel’s interests.
Speaking during a meeting in Mombasa County, the union’s Chairperson Dr Abidan Mwachi said it was unfortunate that most of the county governments continued to ignore concerns raised by the health care workers at a time when the country was at risk of another outbreak.
He said there was a need for the national and county governments to address salaries, promotion and provision of medical supplies and equipment raised by the workers to enhance health care provision across the country.
KMPDU Secretary General Dr Davji Atella said despite several court orders, some of the county governments continued to disregard the concerns risking lives of their citizens seeking healthcare services.
The union has expressed fear of a possible outbreak saying if the issues are not addressed the country might soon be experiencing massive loss of lives from the virus.
