The late Kamaindi chief Japhet Majau who was laid to rest today at Kigatuni village was eulogized as a committed and hardworking civil servant.
Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Beverly Opwora who termed the chief’s death as one that brought agony, shock and grief to the residents said the 59-year-old had no bad past record as an administrator.
“He was a very committed officer and that is why he was promoted to the position of a senior chief until his death,” Ms Opwora said during the sendoff ceremony.
Governor Muthomi Njuki termed the late chief as a hardworking leader who he knew back in 2009.
Chuka deputy county commissioner Omar Beja said ‘we have not only lost one of us but a very diligent officer’.
A pastor at his Evangelical church Kimani Chege said the late Majau was a very organized leader and that as a church ‘they had lost a very humble leader’.
One of his sons eulogized the chief as a father who instilled in them the virtues of hard work and integrity.
The chief leaves behind wife Gladys Kanini and four children, Eliud Muchiri, Fridah Gacheri, John Mwenda and Justin Mugao.
He was a devoted Christian and served as the Pastor at his local Mbaria Evangelistic church and as the National General Secretary of the Evangelical churches.
The late administrator worked with public works from 1984 to 1986 and was employed as the Kamaindi chief in 1999 and later rose to the rank of a senior chief that he served till his demise.
The alumni of Kiriari Secondary school (1980-1983) joined Administration Police Training College in Kiganjo where he did paramilitary course and later pursued a Diploma course in Theology.
