Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology has appealed to police to expedite investigations into the alleged suicide by some students that was triggered by “missing marks”.
The institution has dismissed reports that its two female students aged 22 and 26 years committed suicide due to missing marks.
The body of 26-year-old Irene Monica Mwangi, a fourth year computing student, was found hanging on her bathroom door under unclear circumstances.
Police earlier said a suicide note was recovered from the room and its contents shared with the girl’s family and that a piece of cloth that she died herself with at the neck would be subjected to forensic analysis.
The institution maintained that Ms Mwangi together with Mr Lenny Jessy Masiga whose body was also discovered the same day with stab wounds on the chest had no missing marks.
Reports indicated that he hang himself in his house in Juja using a laptop cable and that his body was discovered by his lover.
“Mr Masiga and Ms Mwangi were Jkuat students pursuing Strategic Management and Business Computing respectively and their academic records are in order,” Jkuat spokesperson Dr Joan Mutua said in June 30 release.
Further, the institution said that Lucy Wambui, also said to have died by suicide in Kiambu was not a student at the University.
