Isiolo politician Mwenda Thuranira has called out the Ameru community elders and representatives over what he termed as advancing personal interests at the expense of the Mwananchi, asking them to step aside to pave way for youthful and community-centric leadership.
The 2022 Isiolo North MP candidate said while the community respects her elders, time had come for young people to take charge and lead the community with integrity and zeal.
He said elders who genuinely speak for the people should be listened to, but those pushing personal agendas should be ignored so that they do not lead the community into a ditch.
“We must walk together in mutual respect. If elders want to be respected, they must also respect us. We will not allow them to continue misleading us on matters leadership,” said Mr Thuranira.
He further castigated embattled Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo citing the recent flooding that hit Bulapesa and Wabera wards among the catastrophes that were poorly handled by the devolved unit that should have prioritized alleviating suffering of the affected residents.
“We supported the current governor, but what we’re witnessing is disappointing,” he said, criticizing the leadership for failing on its 2022 election pledges.
Thuranira said it was shameful that leaders abandon the community after being elected, only to be seen in Nairobi while locals suffer without help.
He further appealed to the youth to uphold peace amid the planned impeachment of the Governor, urging them not to be divided along tribal lines and misused by selfish politicians.
Thuranira spoke when he visited Mr Jeremiah Meme, who recently suffered a stroke that paralyzed his left side where he donated a wheelchair to ease movement for the survivor and ease the burden on his family.
Meme’s wife Lucy Kanini, narrated how it was difficult taking care of him. “I have really suffered. I barely sleep. This wheelchair will reduce the burden of carrying him,” she said, as she appealed for more support to take care of drugs and care.
