A Community Based Organization (CBO) has birthed a youth arm aimed at uniting young people and sensitizing them on the need to actively participate in community activities.
The Mfinyanzi Youth Group, under the Mfinyanzi CBO umbrella, also seeks to create job opportunities and fight drug and substance abuse among the youths in the county.
Speaking during the launch that was graced by Isiolo County Finance Chief Officer Peter Ngechu, Mfinyanzi youth chair Charles Mwangi said the time had come for the young people to build on what had been started by their parents and take the county to greater heights.
Mr Mwangi said they will also ensure increased participation of young people in providing solutions to societal issues.
“We are already sourcing funds to start our projects towards ensuring young people are productive and economically empowered,” Mr Mwangi said while adding that the group intends to venture into tree planting as the first project which will create jobs for at least 10 youths.
The youth leader challenged like-minded young people to join the team that intends to establish several businesses including carwash, real estate and talent nurturing.
His sentiments were echoed by the Youth group project’s chairperson Edward Macharia who appealed to youths to take the lead in creating opportunities through self-employment and not waiting for the government to offer employment.
“Let’s not allow elders to decide for us because we have the power to think and put our things on track. Let us generate our ideas then seek the support of our elders,” said Mr Macharia.
Mr Ngechu, who is the Mfinyanzi CBO Chair, urged the team to unite and seize available government opportunities to help actualize their dreams.
“Opportunities will not find you while you are asleep. You must be ready to take the risk,” he said.
The unity, the official said, will help young people champion their rights and speak in one voice.
