A section of women in Isiolo County have condemned Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo over an alleged physical altercation with Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya during yesterday’s high-level security meeting convened by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
Reports indicate that a verbal exchange between the two leaders escalated shortly after the meeting, with Senator Dullo allegedly slapping the Woman Representative before some residents and security officers stepped in to calm the situation.
The women described the incident as unfortunate and demeaning, saying it undermines leadership, dialogue, and the values expected of elected leaders, particularly women in senior public office.
Maendeleo ya Wanawake Isiolo Chapter Secretary Asha Guyo termed the alleged incident disgraceful and shameful, noting that the senator had long been regarded as a role model to women in the region but had ruined that image.
“Being the first elected woman Senator in the region, we expected her to behave soberly. She has disgraced all women who’ve been looking up to her,” noted Ms Guyo.
Ms Guyo further criticised the vocal politivian for failing to address Isiolo’s persistent insecurity despite sitting in a key security committee, urging leaders to focus on resolving issues affecting residents rather than engaging in public confrontations.
Echoing the sentiments,Gadha women group Chairperson Habiba Halakhe said it was shameful for two senior women leaders to engage in a public altercation, adding that disputes should always be resolved through dialogue.
“Leaders should amicably sort out their differences, not engaging in public confrontations. There are better ways of solving differences,” she added.
Another resident, Zeinab Roba, said the alleged actions were wrong regardless of age or seniority, stressing that disagreements should be handled amicably and with respect.
The group has called on Senator Dullo to issue a public apology to Isiolo residents and particularly women.
The two leaders, both elected on Jubilee Party ticket, campaigned together during the 2022 General Elections alongside Isiolo North MP Joseph Samal and Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo, but Senator Dullo later fell out with the team.
