Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial aspirant who had days ago lamented over alleged police harassment has been dismissed from his place of work over gross misconduct claims.
Mr Erick Gikundi Gitonga who worked at LAPFUND as Finance officer in Tana River County took to social media accusing Tana Delta police officers and their Bangale counterparts of harassing him while on the way to this Ganga ward home in Maara Constituency Tharaka Nithi County on last Thursday and Friday.
Through a letter seen by The Press Point, the company accused Mr Gitonga of abandoning his colleagues while they were on official duty in Lamu.
He had reportedly been facilitated to use his personal car in ferrying his workmates from and back to their workplace but instead left them stranded with no means of transport.
The body claimed that he also attacked a colleague while out on an official duty matter that was reported to Mukowe Police Station vide OB No 24/06/2021.
Lapfund is a defined contribution retirement benefits scheme catering for employees of county governments, water companies and associated organisations.
The letter also alleged that Mr Gitonga made unreasonable demands from his employer, including seeking funds to facilitate his campaigns, failure to which he threatened to expose some information concerning LAPFUND.
“You threatened to share trade secrets with competitors, evidence which is available in an audio recording during an official meeting and subsequent tele-conversations,” read part of the letter signed by Lapfund CEO David Koross dated June 25, 2021.
Among other ills reportedly committed by the aspirant is using offensive language to clients and colleagues, failure to accept recently allocated duties and disobeying orders given by his seniors.
“You are hereby summarily dismissed from employment effective June 25… You will be paid any accrued entitlements and outstanding renumerations up to and including June 25, 2021,” the letter read.
