A family in Meru has been thrown into mourning after their elderly kin drowned in River Thangatha in a suspected suicide case.

The 80-year-old, only identified as M’Cimberia and who was reportedly mentally ill, is suspected to have thrown himself into the raging waters shortly after running away from his house at Kunati village in Tigania Central.

The family, that last saw the deceased on Thursday evening, is yet to come to terms with the horrible death that came as Christians across the world ushered Christmas festivities.

It is reported that the late had early this week tried to jump into the swollen river but was rescued by residents.

His body was retrieved from the River on Friday morning.
