The government has announced a massive crackdown on livestock theft in Ngaremara ward especially along the Isiolo-Samburu border and other affected wards in the county.
Isiolo County Commissioner Geofrey Omoding said the security team had put in place several measures to ensure all stolen livestock is recovered.
Among the measures is following the animals footprints and putting chiefs to task whenever they lead to their jurisdictions so that they ensure they are returned and handed over to the legitimate owners.
Ten (10) suspects, from Samburu and Turkana communities, have been arrested and 11 cows suspected to have been stolen from the Turkanas and 71 goats and 11 camels stolen from the Samburus recovered.
The administrator said the security team was fully prepared to completely eradicate the vice that continues to bedevil the region.
“We are committed to ensuring recovery of all stolen animals and arrest of the criminals,” said Mr Omoding.
He also appealed to the Samburu security team to join hands with the Isiolo team to ensure the exercise bear fruits.
Those with illegal firearms have also been asked to surrender them to the authority or risk forceful disarmament.
“The government has adequate capacity and personnel to protect all the citizens and therefore, there is no need for locals to continue keeping the illegal rifles,” he noted.
