Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti has condemned the recent spate of banditry attacks at Urura that have claimed six lives in a span of five days with an elderly woman left nursing gunshot wounds.
Dr Kuti lamented that innocent Isiolo residents were being attacked by suspected bandits from Wajir without any genuine reason and asked government agencies to probe the killings and bring the perpetrators to book.
At a peace meeting, he said it was unfortunate that security organs had become bystanders while armed militia continue to kill people from Isiolo at grazing fields and watering points in broad daylight.
“It is crystal clear that despite knowing the hotspot areas, the security team has failed to prevent violence from happening and when it does, they are never focused on arresting the perpetrators,” the Governor said.
The county boss asked security agencies to expeditiously deploy Rapid Deployment Unit officers at the county’s border points to prevent further attacks and loss of lives.
The first term Governor appealed to the government to construct a police post at the area towards beefing up security and ensuring residents undertake their activities uninterrupted.
“We will continue pursuing constructive and diplomatic engagement with the security team and political leaders from both counties and spiral it up with the national government towards finding permanent solution,” he assured.
