West Pokot Speaker Catherine Mukenyang has been impeached over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Twenty-five (25) MCAs voted in favour of the oust motion for Ms Mukenyang tabled by Endough MCA Evanson Lomaduny and seconded by Minority leader Peter Lokor while seven (7) opposed.

She was accused of skewed employment of staff on a three-year-contract mostly her cronies and inciting some of the county assembly staff.

The Speaker also reportedly approved expenditures, undertaking the role of a clerk despite deputy-clerk being available, and paid herself Sh590, 600 in March 2018 without any justification.

Speaking after her removal, Ms Mukenyang claimed of political forces behind her impeachment and that MCAs did not give her enough time to defend herself threatening to seek court redress.
