Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa has appealed to residents with elderly relatives to isolate them from interacting with other people to reduce their risk of contracting the deadly Covid-19.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Isiolo town, Ms Jaldesa, who was accompanied by ex-Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, said it was unfortunate that the elderly who spent most of their time at home continued to succumb to the disease.
“Do not allow people to visit your homes because they will be putting your relatives at risk. We are in very hard times and we all need to exercise caution,” she said.
The lawmaker condoled with families who had lost their kin in the recent past due to Covid-19 while bewailing the increased cases of Covid-19 related deaths which she said were not being reported due to inadequate testing.
“We have lost several lives to the virus though many cases are not well highlighted through the media,” said Ms Jaldesa.
Ms Jaldesa, who is a Covid-19 survivor, appealed to the public to take the vaccine while rubbishing the side effects propaganda associated with the jab.
She contracted the deadly virus in April this year barely a month after taking her first dose of the jab.
She said her bodyguard recently succumbed to the virus after two days of illness.
The appeal comes as the Covid-19 positivity rate across the country stands at 7.9 percent with cumulative positive cases as of September 11 standing at 2, 450, 791.
Sadly, 4, 902 people have died from the virus, raising more fear that the unreported cases would swell the number.
Only 3.03 percent of Kenyans had received their full vaccination doses by September 10, 2021.
A total of 3, 081, 610 doses have been administered countrywide, 826, 396 being the first doses.
