The DP considers not taking part in the Referendum process just incase his suggestions are ignored.
He believes that by not participating in the BBI referendum, the plebiscite balloon will be deflated and will gather minimal steam and momentum.
Dr Ruto hopes the document will suffer voter apathy and low turnout at the referendum will mean the document doesn’t enjoy legitimacy even if it will have been approved by a few.
He will later brand the results of the referendum as “Dynasties amendments” and not “popular civilian amendments”. By so doing the vibe document could have carried on 2022 presidential contest will be almost non-existent according to his advisors.
He was quoted on Citizen TV saying he may not participate in a referendum that divides the people of Kenya.
Whether the strategy will work or not it’s only time shall unravel. However, it’s a risky gamble that may henceforth earn him a new second-generation watermelon tag.
