Bunyore Girls High School in Vihiga County has been closed indefinitely after students boycotted classes and threatened to burn the institution.
The administrators were on Monday evening forced to notify the parents that learners would be coming home on Tuesday morning due to unrest.
This comes even after Education CS George Magoha issued a stern warning to students found culpable of causing damages in schools that their criminal record would affect their future employment opportunities.
Speaking while opening newly constructed classrooms in Machakos School on Monday, the CS maintained that schools would not be closed due to unrest by few students and that those found guilty would face the law.
“You must know that there will be consequences of your actions and that we shall no longer handle you like kids. You will not be admitted to any public school if you are proven guilty,” said CS Magoha.
The CS shifted blame from challenges occasioned by Covid-19 to parents irresponsibility maintaining that they will be forced to bear the consequences.
“Let us not pretend that they are destroying buildings because of stress by Corona,” he said.
More than 30 schools have been razed with close to 40 students arrested in connection with the incidents in the past few weeks.
CS Magoha maintained that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other government agencies are investigating the cases and that necessary action will be taken against the culprits.
