Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has rejected Monday’s announcement of his Kenya Kwanza opponent William Ruto as the President elect alleging misconduct by the electoral agency.
Saying Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chair Wafula Chebukati announced the results processed unilaterally without involving all the commissioners, Mr Odinga termed them null and void saying they should be quashed by a court of law.
He said by so doing, Mr Chebukati acted in total disregard to constitution and the law.
“The figures announced by IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati are null and void… There is neither a legally or validly declared winner nor a President elect,” he said at KICC meeting.
He lauded his supporters for exercising restraint and asked them to remain calm and not to take law into their hands as he moves to Supreme court to seek legal redress.
Mr Odinga also commended four IEBC commissioners for standing up against the “illegality” and rejecting the results.
They are Julian Cherera (Vice Chair), Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.
Dr Ruto garnered 7, 176, 141 votes against Mr Odinga’s 6, 942, 930 votes representing 50.49 percent and 48.85 percent respectively.
Roots Party candidate George Wajackoya and Agano Party counterpart Waihiga Mwaure came third and fourth with 61, 969 votes and 31, 987 votes respectively.
Mr Chebukati has already gazetted Dr Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua as President and Deputy President Elect respectively.
