Police in Marsabit last evening arrested seven men for being in possession of five illegal rifles including a General Purpose Machine gun at Adhi Huka Gof Aratha.
The firearms are GPMG, G3 rifle and three AK-47.
The multiagency team also seized over 500 rounds of ammunition, 66 empty cartilages and nine empty magazines for G3 and AK-47 rifles during the operation.
Also recovered was two jungle belts, 500ml of suspected gun oil and equal volume of suspected flammable liquid.
The seven suspects aged between 22 and 70 years are Hassan Jillo Dida, Dokata Guyo Dido, Badake Duba Boru, Umuro Galgallo Guyo, Jarso Molu Bilala, Adan Hassan Abdi and Roba Jarso Dido.
The weapons were taken to Marsabit Police Station armoury with the suspects detained at the station.
A court in Marsabit has allowed their continued detainment for 14 days to allow completion of investigations before they take plea for being in possession of illegal firearms.
