Four police officers attached at Kakamega station have been arrested after they were implicated into mysterious death of a man in December 2019.
The four, Senior Sergeant Michael Cherugut and Police Constables Francis Kayemit, Juma Musa and Duncan Wafula were arrested together with local businessman Denis Rosana who owns a pub within Kakamega town.
Their arrest came after a public inquest into the mysterious death of Raymond Lubango who allegedly jumped from a police vehicle and sustained severe injuries linked them to the crime.
Reports indicate that on December 16, 2019 around 8pm, the bar owner reported that the deceased was creating disturbance at the premises prompting his arrest.
The officers bundled him into a police vehicle and while on the way to the station, the deceased who was seated at the back overpowered the officers and jumped out of the moving vehicle.
He was rushed to Kakamega Referral Hospital where he succumbed to severe head injuries.
It is after several witnesses testified in court that they named the four officers.
During a ruling for the matter on January 21, the court found the five culpable of murder and ordered their arrest.
They are being detained at Kakamega Police Station pending arraignment over murder.
