Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has taken a temporary leave after he was taken ill and appointed his deputy Noor Gabow in acting capacity.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Mr Mutyambai collapsed on Friday while at his home and was rushed into a hospital in Nairobi where he is currently admitted.

In a press release dated August 26, Mr Mutyambai said he would be attending medical checkups effective today (Friday) and that his Deputy would take his place until he resumes.

“In my absence Mr Gabow will be the Inspector General of Police Service in my absence until my return,” read part of the statement.

While majority of Kenyans wished the police boss quick recovery, others made joke of the press release.

“Did he write the letter himself after falling sick or he knew he would fall sick,” one of netizens shared.

Quick look at the press release by The Press Point however established that the signature was not Mr Mutyambai’s presenting a likelihood that it was written by National Police Service official.
